Empty Nester Living

Empty Nester Living

At Cotner Building Company we take pride in always expanding our knowledge of building techniques. It is a fact that the largest segment of the U.S. population is the Aging-In-Place or Empty Nester client. That is the reason we at Cotner Building Company continually expand our design knowledge of building scopes to specialize in offering a product that is suited for this client.  We want to service consumers who want to make their house a home for a lifetime – regardless of one’s age, or functional abilities.

Owner John Cotner is currently becoming certified as an Aging-In-Place specialist so we can offer the best service to our clients. Having this certification will help us be specially trained in:

  • The unique needs of older people;
  • Home modifications that can help people continue living independently in their homes longer;
  • Common remodeling projects;
  • Solutions to common barriers.

What are some Aging-In-Place concepts that we utlilize? As a trained CAPS professional, we seek the knowledge of the strategies and techniques for designing and building aesthetically pleasing, barrier-free living environments. We want to go beyond design to address the codes and standards, common remodeling projects, product ideas and resources needed to provide comprehensive and practical aging-in-place solutions.

Some features of an Aging-In-Place home:

  • Single level living
  • Accessible path of travel in the home
  • Flush thresholds for ease of entry
  • Clear turn space in living, kitchen, master bedrrom and bath locations
  • Accessible showers and toilets
  • Accessible wide doors

And there are many more. For more information about accessible building techniques, click the “Have Coffee with The Builder” button and schedule an appointment.
